Moving and improving in the Lone Star State
When Texas-based Metroplex Sand & Gravel came across CDE at a recent ConExpo-Con/Agg in Las Vegas, the encounter kickstarted a customer journey that would see CDE commission a customized wet processing solution for Metroplex at its Fort Worth, Texas, site the following year.
Fast forward 16 months from the date of its commissioning, and CDE technology had enabled Metroplex to exceed its production objectives.
Shortly after, at the end of the economic life of the Fort Worth quarry, Metroplex made the decision to replicate the highly successful production model at its then newly acquired quarry in Ravenna, Texas – about 100 miles from Fort Worth.
A portable solution
The CDE methodology is based on a tailor-made service to the company’s clients, who are invited to collaborate in the development of their installation – dubbed CDE’s co-creation approach. This means each wet processing solution is created with the client’s requirements at its core and involves their input at every stage of the process.
For Metroplex, a modular and portable solution was required to ensure that the high-efficiency, built-to-last installation would be fully utilized throughout its lifetime.
Due to owning various sites, the ability to relocate the plant from one site to another was an important design consideration for Metroplex to maximize return on investment. So, in just 11 working days, the full CDE Fort Worth installation was disassembled, containerized, relocated and installed by Metroplex employees at the Ravenna sand deposit, near the Red River, where it was then be recommissioned by CDE.
At its new deposit, the company, now operating as Resolve Aggregates, has been producing in excess of 100,000 tons per month of masonry sand, C33 concrete sand and cushion sand.
New opportunities
CDE continues to work closely with the Resolve Aggregates team and it recently upgraded the existing plant to support Resolve Aggregates’ desire to expand its product offering and improve yield.
The existing plant featured a complete five-machine wet processing solution, comprising the M4500 modular wash plant, the AggMax modular logwasher, the Counter Flow Classification Unit (CFCU), an EvoWash fines recovery unit and an AquaCycle thickener.
CDE’s modular approach means its equipment can fit into existing processes to minimize plant downtime while upgrades are commissioned. Resolve Aggregates was pleased with the equipment, as well as the precision with which the plant fits together.
Recent upgrades to the plant include a fine screen for the M4500 modular wash plant, integrated into the plant between the existing dewatering screen and CFCU. The additional cut point enables the company to produce a high-value golf sand, a new product in the Resolve Aggregates range.
In addition, it has boosted product yield of the company’s best seller: its C33 concrete sand product.
“We’re delighted to continue the customer journey with Resolve Aggregates in Ravenna, Texas,” says James McShane, business development manager at CDE. “We’re helping Resolve to expand its current operations and its product offering. The recent purchase of a fine screen for its modular washing system will see Resolve Aggregates produce golf sand in addition to C33 and cushion sands, while at the same time increasing its yields of C33 concrete sand by as much as 15 percent.”
