In 1972, Peter Barton invested in his first wheel loader – a JCB 3C – and established his own subcontracting business.
Nearly 50 years later, P&L Barton remains a family-run business, providing service to both existing and new customers in Lancashire, England. The company provides a wide range of services to the construction, recycling and quarrying industries, among others.
Recently, P&L Barton was tasked with producing limestone walling stone for a regular client. To accomplish the job, P&L Barton utilized its EvoQuip Colt 1000 and reconfigured the machine so both conveyors discharged out the same side into segregated areas, the company says. This reconfiguration not only maximizes the available area, but it also eliminates double-handling of material.
“The Colt 1000 is the perfect machine for us due to its flexibility,” says Richard Barton, plant manager at P&L Barton. “Being suited to scalping and fine screening and the ability to quickly convert from three-way to two-way split and to swap conveyors configurations means it’s suitable for many applications and jobsites.”

According to EvoQuip, the Colt 1000 is able to operate in both precision and heavy-duty screening applications while operating in a compact footprint. Furthermore, the Colt 1000 features a variable screening angle with numerous screen media options, a double deck screen and a broad fines conveyor.
“The Colt 1000 is one of our best-selling products,” says Gabrielle Stewart, product manager at EvoQuip. “Customers regularly comment on being impressed by the performance of the aggressive screen box and have found it to be excellent in multiple applications.”
