As production for the June issue of Portable Plants neared the finish line, I spent a weekend in New Jersey attending the Power in the Pines airshow.
The highlight of the show was, without a doubt, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. Experiencing the power and precision of these six incredible pilots was awe-inspiring.
Most impressive was the teamwork and coordination they displayed. These planes were, at times, flying no more than 18 inches apart or directly at each other, only to execute a perfectly timed turn and avoid a collision at the last second.
Through cockpit audio, the crowd could hear the constant communication and planning that made their daring maneuvers possible. Trust, coordination and mutual respect were on full display – qualities that are just as crucial in the construction materials industry.
Manufacturers strive to develop a strong relationship with their dealers, ensuring their products are sold and maintained properly. Similarly, dealers want to work well with manufacturers so they can continue to offer the latest equipment and technology to their customers.
From an end user perspective, working with a good dealer can be invaluable when it comes to outfitting your operations and ensuring your equipment is running well. Dealers also want their customers to trust that they have their best interest in mind and ensure they will continue to work with them.
The same general principles apply to manufacturers that work directly with customers and vice versa.
Teamwork in action
One example of a good working relationship is on display in one of the stories in this month’s issue.
Read about how RDO Equipment, a dealer with locations throughout the Midwest and Western U.S., is working together with Knife River, a producer, on a pilot program that will offer veterans with disabilities rewarding and fulfilling work. Additionally, this program wouldn’t have been possible without equipment and technology contributions from John Deere and Teleo, as well as a grant from the state of Montana.
If any of these contingents didn’t have the utmost trust in the others, who knows if this incredible opportunity materializes.
Just as the Thunderbirds rely on each other to soar safely, our industry thrives when we choose to collaborate and trust one another.
