Volvo Construction Equipment added spacious cabs and intelligent hydraulics for increased power and reduced fuel consumption to its EC35D and ECR40D compact excavators. The EC35D compact excavator and the ECR40D short-swing radius compact excavator include redesigned cabs with updated controls and 10 percent more space than previous models, according to the company. In-cab features include four attachment-specific buttons that allow for precise adjustment of hydraulic flow; auto idle function to reduce noise disturbances and decrease fuel consumption; and two user-adjustable engine speeds for tasks such as grading and lifting. Volvo says both excavators come with Tier 4 Final Volvo D1.8A engines that are about 5 percent more fuel efficient than previous models. The machines also have side-mounted engines, which provides operators with easy access for maintenance. In addition, the ECR40D excavator can work in particularly tight spaces because of its short swing tail radius and the position of the offset boom.
