Dump truck automatically provides optimum traction

With a 44.1-ton payload, Komatsu America Corp. says its HM400-5 articulated dump truck (ADT) maintains the productivity of its previous model, offering improved fuel efficiency. The company says the ADT’s 10-ft., 5-in. loading height matches with 40- to 60-ton hydraulic excavators or 5.5-cu.-yd. to 7.5-cu.-yd. wheel loaders.

Komatsu says the HM400-5 comes with the Komatsu Traction Control System that automatically provides optimum traction when operating in soft ground conditions.

The company says its dump truck features K-ATOMiCS – Komatsu Advanced Transmission with Optimum Modulation Control System – which offers a six-speed, automatic transmission that uses an electronic system to eliminate shift shock and torque cutoff. It automatically chooses the ideal gear, based on vehicle speed, shifting and synchronized engine speed when climbing slopes. Komatsu adds that the ADT integrates a payload meter to display loaded material weight on an LCD monitor.
