A Caterpillar C27 Tier 4 Interim engine powers the grinder, which weighs 88,500 lbs. and is available with an optional transportation dolly. The combination of a 60 in. x 40 in. feed opening with a high lift feed roll allows the machine to shred a range of material, including stumps. According to Peterson, the 5710D uses an impact release system that can be set in a mode that provides consistent product sizing. Another mode – floating anvil – allows for primary reduction when precise sizing is not as critical. In addition, the 5710D’s controls include a fully adjustable feed system that can be optimized to handle a variety of materials. A quick-change multiple grate system simplifies customizing grate configurations, giving operators the ability to produce a number of finished products. Also, urethane cushions allow movement of the compression roll/anvil housing pivot shaft.
