As LafargeHolcim continues to recognize the benefits of the portable ready-mix plant in the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital project, portable projects are no new pursuit for the company.

According to Jay Moreau, CEO of U.S. aggregate and construction materials at LafargeHolcim, the company does portable work in 43 states and “pretty much any market that we’re in.” Therefore, the company expects portable projects to be a growing part of its future.

“I think it’s a strategically important growth strategy for us and we certainly think portable is going to be a larger component of our growth in the next five to 10 years,” Moreau says. “A lot of the big concrete jobs we do are highways or warehouses and those types of facilities, which, at the time, have gotten much larger. So it does then support the ability to bring in a portable plant, and it’s actually much more cost-effective than trying to supply a project remotely.”

In addition, Moreau says there is “tremendous more opportunity coming” for the use of portable equipment in the years to come.

“I think it will continue to progress and maybe faster than it did the last 10 years,” Moreau says. “I think a lot of that will be driven by the size of the infrastructure projects that we’re seeing make a portable solution more effective. So I think, yeah, it’s going to be a bigger part of our folio going forward.”
