Magna named Johnston McFarland technical director.

In the role, Magna says McFarland will provide technical leadership across the company’s product portfolio so products are correctly specified, supported, introduced and continuously improved throughout their lifecycle. He will work closely with engineering, quality, sales and aftermarket teams, while supporting distributors and customers worldwide.

McFarland joined Terex, Magna’s parent company, in 2019 as an electrical commissioning engineer. Over the past seven years, he has progressed throughout the business, most recently serving as installation and commissioning manager. He also held a business development manager role focused on water treatment solutions, giving him experience of product development, customer support, commissioning and commercial operations, according to Magna.

“I’m excited to be joining Magna at this stage in its development and to have the opportunity to help shape the brand’s future,” McFarland says. “Throughout my time with Terex, I’ve worked closely with customers, distributors and colleagues across different parts of the business, and I’m looking forward to bringing that experience into this role.

“Magna has built strong momentum in a relatively short period of time,” he adds. “I’m looking forward to working with the team, supporting our distributors and customers, and helping to ensure our products continue to meet the needs of the market.”

Says Neil McIlwaine, business line director at Magna: “Johnston brings a combination of technical expertise, practical field experience and a strong understanding of customer requirements. Having worked across commissioning, installation, business development and product support, he has developed a well-rounded perspective that will be a valuable asset as Magna continues to grow. His appointment further strengthens our technical leadership capability and will help us continue to deliver the levels of product performance and customer support that our customers and partners expect.”
