Morbark hosted about 250 customers, members of its dealer network and other guests from around the world at its 10th Demo Days event Oct. 13-14 at its headquarters in Winn, Michigan.
Morbark showcased the 223 flail, its newest piece of equipment, during the event. The 223 flail works in conjunction with chippers and includes dual horizontal segmented flail drums, each equipped with eight flail chain rods. Additionally, the machine’s 56-in. x 23-in. feed opening accepts logs up to 23 in. in diameter at a feed rate between 70 and 150 ft. per minute.
“The 223 stand-alone flail is a new item to our forestry lineup,” says Michael Stanton, director of industrial products at Morbark. “It will debark a whole log to minimize the bark, twigs and limbs on it before it goes into a chipper. It eliminates debris to get a clean chip.”
Guests also had the opportunity to view equipment up close during equipment demonstrations. Morbark used a drone to record demonstrations at the event.
“This has been an event for us the last several years to incorporate existing customers, prospects and dealer representatives to see our factory, equipment and meet our people,” Stanton says. “It gives them the opportunity to see behind the scenes at Morbark.”
Several attendees had been at the event before, including Timothy Hoeffert, owner of Mobile Reduction Specialists in Sturtevant, Wisconsin.
“Morbark invited us out here to their event in October 2014,” Hoeffert says. “We noticed the craftsmanship in Morbark and how they manufacture equipment. We bought one later that year and were well-pleased with the company, so I came back this year to look at more equipment to shred pallets.”

To end the demonstration, Morbark demonstrated operation of the 6600 track Wood Hog horizontal grinder against the 1300B tub grinder.
