The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) awarded its 2020 Operational Excellence award along with its Environmental Leadership award.

According to NAPA, the awards are a counterpart to the association’s annual Quality in Construction awards that highlight best practices and standards in the industry.

Operational Excellence award winners

NAPA’s Operational Excellence awards are separated into two categories: community involvement and asphalt operations safety innovation.

Callanan Cares at Callanan Industries of Albany, New York, was named the Operational Excellence Community Involvement award winner.

Kokosing Construction Co. of Frederickstown, Ohio, earned the Asphalt Operations Safety Innovation award winner.

According to NAPA, its Operational Excellence awards honor leaders in the asphalt pavement industry for excellence in community outreach and innovative safety practices.

“NAPA members strive for excellence beyond constructing high-quality asphalt pavements,” says James Winford, NAPA chairman. “The two categories of the Operational Excellence Awards — Asphalt Operations Safety Innovation and Community Involvement — recognize a company’s commitment to operations that make them good contractors, good industry ambassadors and good neighbors.”

Environmental Leadership award winners

Three plants were awarded NAPA’s 2020 Environmental Leadership awards.

Brox Industries of Dracut, Massachussetts, earned recognition for its Dracut Gencor Drum 2 facility; Rogers Group was awarded for its Candora Asphalt Plant in Knoxville, Tennessee; and Tilcon Connecticut, A CRH Co., earned distinction for its New Britain Drum in New Britain Connecticut.

According to NAPA, its Environmental Leadership awards honor plants that demonstrate strong community relations and environmental stewardship. Earning the award is a two-year process, NAPA says, that includes the submission of information regarding employee and community activities, as well as environmental and beautification upgrades.

“Members of the asphalt industry strive to be good neighbors in their communities by conducting outreach activities, enacting operational upgrades that reduce environmental impact and maintaining an aesthetically pleasing plant site,” Winford says. “The selection process for this prestigious award is rigorous, and in winning this award, the companies have demonstrated their commitment to their community, and to excellence in their plant operations.”
