Komatsu introduced the WA475-11 and WA485-11 wheel loader models. The new models are designed to move material efficiently and effectively, according to Komatsu, increasing productivity while providing improved operator comfort and maintenance ease. The WA485-11 offers up to 12 percent lower fuel consumption, 21 percent more engine power and 13 percent faster climbing speed compared to its predecessor, the WA480-8. The WA475-11 provides up to 7 percent lower fuel consumption, 18 percent higher engine power and 40 percent greater climbing speed compared to the WA475-10. Both loaders now include Komatsu Hydrostatic-Mechanical Transmission, offering improved fuel efficiency and productivity.

Hydraulic hybrid excavators harvest ‘free’ energy from machines

Volvo Construction Equipment is integrating its hydraulic hybrid technology to its newest generation of excavators with the EC260 Hybrid, EC300 Hybrid, EC370 Hybrid, EC400 Hybrid and EC500 Hybrid. This selection of crawler excavators ranges from 26 tons to 50 tons with Volvo CE saying they represent the future of excavator design. According to Volvo CE, these new models deliver up to 20 percent better fuel efficiency than the previous series’ conventional models and a 15 percent reduction in CO2. Volvo CE says its hydraulic hybrid technology works by harvesting “free” energy generated by the down motion of the excavator’s boom. The machine uses this boom-down motion to charge the accumulator and then uses the stored energy to drive the assist motor when needed, in turn powering the engine system.

Wheel loader moves more material at lower cost

Caterpillar released its 988 GC wheel loader that the company says delivers reliable and efficient operation, allowing customers to move more material at a lower cost per hour for a faster return on investment. Cat’s new wheel loader is equipped with a Cat C15 engine, which meets Tier 3 or Tier 4 Final emissions standards. Cat says its advanced power electronic control strategy transmission offers consistent and smooth shifting, productivity and efficiency improvements, and long life. Forward momentum and torque are maintained when shifting for greater momentum on grades. The transmission neutralizer pedal extends service brake life and allows full power during stationary loading, according to the company. Cat’s Product Link offers wireless access to operating data for insight into how the machine is operating.
