The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) named Joe Roche interim president
Former president Mike Philipps resigned in August. Since then, Roche, CFO of NRMCA, and Deborah Malone, the association’s COO, had led the organization.
“Over the past six years, Mike has been a driving force behind the development, growth and success of our organization,” NRMCA said in a written statement following Philipps’ resignation. “His leadership has significantly contributed to the expansion of NRMCA membership and strengthened the ready mixed concrete industry. Mike’s dedication and vision have positioned our industry for continued growth and success.
“On behalf of the entire NRMCA family, I extend our deepest gratitude to Mike for his unwavering commitment to our members and to the concrete industry,” the association added. “His contributions have been invaluable and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
Now, NRMCA begins its search for its new full-time president.
“As the association leadership conducts the search for its next full-time leader, we know we can rely with confidence on Joe’s professionalism, deep commitment to the association and his steady leadership style to server our staff, our members and our state affiliate executives,” NRMCA says. “We appreciate Joe’s willingness to accept and serve in this important transitional role.”
The association has formed a search committee made up of NRMCA leadership and other industry executives. This committee will, in turn, work with a search firm to be chosen by Tim Cooper, executive vice president of human resources at NRMCA.
Making up the search committee are:
• G. Carlton Golden Jr., secretary and treasurer with NRMCA’s Audit & Finance Committee and president of Builders Supply Co.
• Sarah Beasley, a member of NRMCA’s Executive Committee and general manager at Vulcan Materials Co.
• Heather Brown, vice president of quality control and quality assurance at IMI and former director of the concrete industry management program at Middle Tennessee State University
• Todd Dragna, senior vice president of Robertsons Ready Mix
• Rodney Grogan, president of western operations at Dunn Investment Co.; past president of MMC Materials; and past chairman of the NRMCA Board of Directors
• Michael LeMonds, a member of NRMCA’s Executive Committee and chief sustainability officer and vice president of ESG for the U.S. at Holcim.
• Ben Olin, concrete quality technical manager and chair of NRMCA’s membership small producers council; and concrete technical services director at Dickinson Ready Mix
The search committee will also include Roche and Cooper as non-voting members to help facilitate the committee’s activities. The Executive Committee’s primary goal in forming the selection committee was to ensure diverse perspectives, with a focus on a broad range of experiences and geographic representation.
The committee, in conjunction with the chosen outside recruiting firm, will recommend two to three candidates to the sitting Executive Committee, which will then select and recommend a candidate to the full Board of Directors for final approval.
“We look forward to a thoughtful, deliberate and thorough process,” the association says. “Those involved in this important effort will do so efficiently and take the necessary time to ensure they select the best candidate to guide NRMCA in the years ahead; hence, we are not putting a deadline on when the process will be complete.”
