Robco Inc., which provides aggregates, asphalt services and initial site development services in and around Grants Pass, Oregon, is the recipient of a Sentinels of Safety Award from the National Mining Association (NMA).
NMA named Robco the award recipient in its “small quarry, portable crusher” category for its safety performance in 2021.
According to NMA, the Sentinels of Safety Award program recognizes coal and mineral mining operations in multiple categories for recording the most hours in a calendar year without a single lost-time injury. A minimum of 4,000 hours is required for award consideration.
Other companies to earn Sentinels of Safety Awards this year are All American Asphalt, Lehigh Hanson, Martin Marietta and Titan America.
“The extraordinary safety accomplishments of these companies serve as a model for all of industry, which is united behind a rigorous dedication to a culture of continuous improvement,” says Rich Nolan, NMA president and CEO. “Every mine in this country understands that the complex work we do requires constant vigilance and, through steadfast leadership, strong systems and an ingrained culture of safety, today’s honorees have achieved the ultimate goal: providing a safe environment for their employees.”
Herbert Hoover, a former mining engineer, initiated the Sentinels of Safety Award program in 1925 – a time when he served as U.S. commerce secretary.
