In order to help prevent fatalities and injuries from demolition hazards, OSHA launched an updated website to educate construction workers on common demolition hazards and safety precautions used to prevent them.

The site also contains information on OSHA standards, hazard assessments and measures that can be taken to further ensure workers’ safety.

“Demolition workers face many hazards and their lives should not be sacrificed because of deliberate neglect of demolition fundamentals,” says David Michaels, assistant secretary of labor for OSHA, in a press release. “Employers must ensure that all workers involved in a demolition project are fully aware of hazards and safety precautions before work begins and as it progresses.”

According to a press release, OSHA issued nearly 1,000 citations for violated demolition standards from 2009-2013. The updated site, in addition to demolition training courses provided by OSHA, is aimed at preventing unwarranted deaths and enforcing safety in dangerous work zones.
