Editor’s note: For the September issue of Portable Plants, members of the Editorial Advisory Board were asked the following questions: What are some equipment and technology trends you and your company are keeping an eye on? Are there any you or your company have implemented thus far? If so, how has it helped or changed how you operate?
The current trends we see in the industry are telematics, autonomy/AI integration into control systems, diesel-electric hybrid power options, and product line expansions, to name a few.
We have implemented a few of these thus far. We have telematics on our machines, and it has been great. This new and exciting feature has allowed us to provide even better support to our dealers and end users.
We have diversified our portfolio with the SMI Compact line. These products offer solutions to small- to mid-size demolition and excavation companies that are getting into crushing and recycling materials to either use for their current project or future ones. This is due to rising dump fees, high fuel rates and to cut back on costs of bringing new products in. More companies are now starting to offer larger or smaller-scale machines to fit any job.
