The tow-behind conveyor is constructed with a hitch that can attach to a track plant and easily travel behind the plant as it moves, according to Jodi Heirigs, product manager for KPI-JCI and Astec Mobile Screens. A bolt-on hopper sidewall allows the conveyor to rotate 180 degrees to discharge material to either side, or rotate 90 degrees to transport inline.
“Our new tow-behind conveyor pairs perfectly with our track-mounted impactor plants – which are the only continuous crushing and tracking impactors on the market – and allows material to be stockpiled on either side of the machine,” Heirigs says. “This is ideal for highway contractors, who can stockpile material over Jersey barriers and minimize the number of times material is handled for reduced operating costs.”
According to the company, field results have shown that producers can achieve more than $1 per ton in savings by eliminating haul trucks and replacing them with the tow-behind conveyor.
“Unnecessary material handling is a costly mistake,” Heirigs says. “By investing in a tow-behind conveyor, producers and contractors can achieve very significant savings over the lifetime of the machine.”
Additional features of the tow-behind conveyor are an 11-ft. discharge height, which enables the conveyor to load material directly into trucks or build a windrow of material alongside the track plant. The conveyor also utilizes a hydraulic drive, allowing it to be powered off the track plant. Producers have the option to add dust suppression to the tow-behind conveyor by hooking it to the track-mounted impactor plant, as well.
