Fall protection topped the list of the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s (OSHA) most frequently cited standards for fiscal year 2020.
In all, OSHA produced a list of 10 standards that were most frequently cited during fiscal year 2020. OSHA’s hazard communication standard ranked second behind fall protection, followed by respiratory protection, general requirements associated with scaffolding, ladders, lockout/tagout, powered industrial trucks, fall protection training requirements, eye and face protection, and machinery and machine guarding.
According to OSHA, it publishes a top 10 list each year so employers will take steps to find and fix recognized hazards before OSHA representatives show up to a workplace.
Similarly, the Mine Safety & Health Administration publishes a list each year of its most frequently cited standards. For surface mines, moving machine parts was the most frequently cited standard in 2020. Other commonly cited standards for surface mines last year were electrical conductors, moving machine parts, and horns and backup alarms.
