EvoQuip, Powerscreen equipment propel contractor’s growth
By the end of 2021, White was ready to shift from renting to owning a crusher. McCarthy supplied him with an EvoQuip Bison 280 jaw crusher, which EvoQuip says is perfect for an entry-level contractor looking for a jaw that can be closed in tighter to make reusable products.
Outlaw also bought an EvoQuip Cobra 230 compact impact crusher to make dense grade products from its concrete and asphalt. The Cobra 230 features a four-bar rotor and hydraulic-controlled aprons.
“Having both the jaw and the impactor allows us to handle a bigger variety of inbound materials while making better spec’d products for our jobsites and for our customers,” White says.
Humble beginnings
Outlaw Excavating’s start was not in aggregate processing.
White, a Kansas native, moved to Tucson, Arizona – where Outlaw is based – with plans for a career in architecture. He was employed by a company specializing in pool construction shortly after making the move.
When White founded Outlaw in 2005, he initially continued to focus on pool construction. Outlaw’s growth was rapid in the mid-2000s, and after starting with just a mini excavator and a dump truck, the company’s staff grew to 13 people and a fleet of truck on hand.
After a setback during the 2008-09 downturn when the staff was reduced to just White and his brother, Outlaw’s growth continued on the other side of the recession.
The company diversified into various excavation projects, and it currently has a fleet of 16 trucks and more than 35 employees.
Getting acclimated
While there was a learning curve to get past when beginning in aggregates, having the support of McCarthy, as well as utilizing EvoQuip and Powerscreen equipment, made work easier.
That is one thing Andrew Lawrence, North American sales director at EvoQuip, says sets the company’s equipment apart.
“EvoQuip offers a comprehensive portfolio of products to address the needs of the compact crushing and screening markets,” Lawrence says. “The impressive growth story of Outlaw Excavating shows how our equipment is ideal for companies new to our industry who are keen to grow and diversify their portfolio of equipment to tap into new markets.
“User friendliness is at the heart of the EvoQuip brand, and as new products are developed, the focus is always on simplicity, easy maintenance, fuel efficiency and ease of transport,” he adds. “They are the perfect equipment for entry-level contractors.”
