Editor’s note: For the September issue of Portable Plants, members of the Editorial Advisory Board were asked the following questions: What are some equipment and technology trends you and your company are keeping an eye on? Are there any you or your company have implemented thus far? If so, how has it helped or changed how you operate?

The most significant technological advancement we have recently adopted in our quarries is the integration of real-time analytics provided online by our vendors.

These tools allow us to monitor, in real-time, various aspects of our operations, including the status of individual pieces in the production process, production rates and other critical metrics. This enables us to reconfigure workflows to enhance efficiency, monitor crew start-up and finish times, track fuel usage, and much more.

As vendors continue to refine these products, they are increasingly meeting customer expectations for detailed data, which is now essential for maintaining a competitive edge. This technology is a substantial asset for ensuring maximum productivity, even if management has limited on-site visibility.

Jim Marzolino is general manager of Kriger Construction in Dickson City, Pennsylvania.
